Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first vice president to be female and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has been attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and was an United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her pointed questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
